A storm groups the cars that came from one hail event. Each storm has a name, a state, a tax rate and a storm date. When you link claims to a storm you can filter the garage by storm and see that storm’s profit and loss: insurance money, charges, expenses, payouts and net, plus averages per delivered car.
Who can do this
- Create, edit and archive storms: Owner or Manager.
- Link a claim to a storm: anyone creating or editing the claim.
- Storms P&L page: paid plans (Monthly, Annual and up), and only for members who can see financials.
- “Storm from this day” on the Hail Map: Annual plan and up, Owner or Manager.
Steps
Create a storm in Settings
- In the left menu, click Settings and scroll to the Storms card.
- Fill in the storm name (for example “Dallas Hail April 2026”), the State (2 letters), the Tax % and the storm date.
- Click Add storm.
The storm appears in the list with its state, tax rate and number of cars. Click Edit to change it, then Save. Click Archive when the storm is finished (and Unarchive to bring it back).
Create a storm from the Hail Map (Annual plan)
- In the left menu, click Hail Map and pick the day of the storm with the date picker or the ‹ and › day arrows.
- Click Storm from this day.
- Check the Name (it is filled in for you from the state and date), the State and the Tax %.
- Click Create storm, then Done.
New claims that pick this storm get their date of loss filled in with that day.
Link claims to a storm
- When you create a claim, choose the storm in the Storm dropdown in the Insurance section. If the Date of loss is empty, it fills in with the storm’s date.
- To change the storm on an existing claim, open the claim, click Edit details and pick the Storm under “Storm & notes”.
See a storm’s P&L
- In the left menu, click Storms.
- The table shows each storm’s Claims (with how many are delivered and cleared), Insurance, Charges, Expenses, Gross, Payouts and Net, with an All storms total at the bottom.
- Click a storm’s row to open its breakdown: each claim’s stage and numbers, plus the average rental cost, gross, net, sales pay and tech pay per delivered car.
- To export for your accountant, pick a month in the month picker and click Monthly P&L (CSV).
Good to know
- The numbers on the Storms page are projected from every claim’s current numbers, so they change as you enter payments, expenses and payouts.
- Only active storms show in the new-claim Storm dropdown. Archived storms still show on the Storms page.
- In the Garage, use the storm filter to see only one storm’s cars, or No storm for cars without one.
- The tax rate is saved with the storm and shown with it; the Storms page does not add tax to any total.
- The phone app shows the storm P&L to owners and managers under Storms P&L on the Home screen. Storms are created on the web.
